What Is the Hydro-Québec Solar Grant?
As of April 2, 2026, Hydro-Québec is offering a direct grant of $1,000 for every kilowatt of solar capacity you install, up to a maximum of 40% of your eligible project costs.
The program is designed to do one thing: slash the payback period on solar. Before this grant, Quebec homeowners were looking at 25 to 30 years to break even on a solar installation. Federal grants for solar panels, like the Canada Clean Technology Tax Credit, can be layered on top of this provincial solar installation grant for even greater savings. With both programs applied, the payback period drops to roughly 10 to 12 years.
Solar panels must have been installed on or after June 30, 2025, and you have 9 months from your installation date to submit your application through the LogisVert portal.
How Much Can You Save?
Example: 5 kW Residential System
| Cost Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Estimated system cost (5 kW) | ~$12,000 – $15,000 |
| Hydro-Québec LogisVert grant ($1,000/kW) | − $5,000 |
| Canada Clean Technology Tax Credit (30%) | − $3,000 – $4,500 |
| Your effective out-of-pocket | ~$2,500 – $7,000 |
This is a hypothetical example for illustration purposes. Actual savings will vary depending on your system size, installation costs, and individual eligibility.
Solar Panel Grant Requirements: What Equipment Qualifies
To be eligible for the grant, the solar panels themselves must meet all of the following conditions:
- New — used or refurbished panels are not eligible
- Purchased in Quebec — from a Quebec store or an online retailer with a Quebec address. Volts Energies operates from Quebec and meets this requirement
- Installed in an eligible dwelling on or after June 30, 2025
- CSA certified — panels must comply with CSA 22.2 No. 61730 and CAN/CSA-IEC 61215 standards
At Volts Energies, our solar panels — including Elios Voltaic bifacial panels and Lumera Solar (made in Canada) — are new, CSA-certified, and shipped from Quebec. Confirm the certification of your chosen model with our team before purchase if you have any questions.
Installer Requirements for the Hydro-Québec Solar Grant
The grant also has strict requirements for who performs the work. Make sure your contractor meets all of the following:
Solar panel installation:
The installer must hold an RBQ licence including subcategory 11.2 (Specialty Equipment and Products Contractor) or 13.5 (Special or Prefabricated Installations Contractor).
Electrical work (inverter connection):
Must be performed by a contractor holding subcategory 16 (Electrical Contractor), registered with the Quebec Enterprise Registrar, and a member of their sector's corporation.
Turnkey contractors:
If one company handles everything, they must hold all relevant subcategories — or hold a general contractor's licence (1.2 or 1.3) and subcontract to qualified tradespeople.
NABCEP certification:
Hydro-Québec strongly recommends hiring an installer with NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) certification.
Note: Roof repairs or replacements, and repairs for damage covered by warranty or home insurance, are not eligible under this program.
