Toyotomi Heaters & Direct-Vent Oil Heating in Canada
Buy Toyotomi direct-vent oil heaters in Canada for homes, cabins, garages, workshops and off-grid properties. Sealed combustion means no chimney and no ductwork, just a small wall penetration for the vent. Toyotomi models reach up to 87 percent efficiency and burn up to 50 percent less fuel than conventional oil-fired systems.
Heat a cabin, cottage, garage or off-grid property without a chimney. Compare the full Toyotomi range below, from 15,000 BTUH space heaters to hydronic and domestic hot water units, plus the vent kits they need.

Toyotomi Direct-Vent Oil Heaters
Toyotomi has manufactured heating equipment in Japan since 1948 and is one of the largest producers of high-efficiency heaters and portable air conditioners worldwide. The direct-vent oil line is built for cold-climate performance, reaching up to 87 percent efficiency with sealed combustion and low emissions. Sealed-combustion Toyotomi units are certified for mobile homes and manufactured housing, which is a stricter approval than standard residential and reflects how the appliance handles combustion air.
Types of Toyotomi Heaters
The Toyotomi range at Volts Energies covers space heating, water heating and the vent hardware both need.
Vented Oil Space Heaters
Wall-mounted or floor-standing units that heat the room they occupy and adjacent open space. This is the core of the range, from 15,000 BTUH for a single room up to 40,000 BTUH for a whole cabin or a large open-plan area. The current Laser models add Wi-Fi control, so temperature can be set remotely and a cottage can be brought up to temperature before you arrive.
- 15,000 to 40,000 BTUH output
- Direct venting through one exterior wall
- Standard vent kit included
- Wi-Fi control on the Laser models
- Certified for mobile homes and manufactured housing
On-Demand Hydronic Heaters
The OM-128HH heats water on demand for a hydronic distribution system, feeding radiant floor loops or baseboard convectors. It suits properties where heat needs to reach several rooms rather than radiating from one appliance.
- On-demand hot water for space heating
- Feeds radiant floor loops or baseboards
- Oil-fired, with low electrical draw
- Vent kit ordered separately
- 4 inch and 5 inch chimney adapters available
Semi-On-Demand Domestic Water Heaters
The OM-122DW produces domestic hot water for taps and showers, oil-fired rather than electric. On an off-grid property this matters, because electric water heating is one of the largest loads a solar system can face.
- Domestic hot water for taps and showers
- Oil-fired, not electric
- Removes one of the heaviest off-grid loads
- Vent kit ordered separately
- 4 inch and 5 inch chimney adapters available
Vent Kits and Chimney Adapters
Space heaters vent through a wall and ship with a standard vent kit. The OM-122DW and OM-128HH take their vent kit as a separate order. Where an existing flue is being reused, 4 inch and 5 inch chimney install adapter kits are available. Confirm the venting method for your installation before ordering hardware.
- 4 inch and 5 inch adapter sizes
- Fits the OM-122DW and OM-128HH
- For reusing an existing flue
Direct-Vent Oil Heating vs the Alternatives
How a Toyotomi direct-vent heater compares with the other ways Canadians heat cabins, cottages and off-grid homes.
| Heating option | The tradeoff | How it compares |
|---|---|---|
| Toyotomi direct-vent oil | Efficient, off-grid friendly | Up to 87 percent efficiency, one wall vent, and only a small electrical draw for the fan and controls. |
| Conventional oil furnace | Same fuel, less efficient | A chimney carries heat away. Toyotomi states up to 50 percent fuel savings against older oil-fired systems and up to 50 percent lower CO₂ output. |
| Propane | Both clean, both need a tank | Usually comes down to local fuel pricing and delivery, and whether you already have an oil tank on site. |
| Electric heat | Cheap to install, costly to run | A 1,500W baseboard heater running eight hours uses 12 kWh, more than most cabin battery banks hold. |
| Wood | Cheap, needs you there | Needs constant attendance, won't hold a set temperature or keep pipes from freezing while you are away. |
| Cold-climate heat pump | Efficient, but electric | Its draw is far beyond what a typical off-grid solar array supports. |
Heating for Off-Grid and Solar Properties
This is the case that most often brings people to a direct-vent oil heater, and it comes down to electrical draw.
Why electric heat fails off-grid:
An off-grid cabin running a 630W array with 4.8 kWh of storage cannot heat with electricity. Resistance heating would empty the bank in a few hours, and a heat pump would not start. A direct-vent oil heater produces its heat by combustion and uses power only for the fan, igniter and controls, so it runs comfortably on a modest solar system.
Hot water too:
The same logic applies to domestic hot water. An electric tank is one of the heaviest continuous loads on any off-grid system, which is why the OM-122DW exists in this range at all.
Check your inverter:
Confirm the electrical draw and startup surge for the specific model against your inverter's continuous and surge ratings before ordering. Our team can check this for you, and can size a solar system around the heater if you are building from scratch.
What Size Toyotomi Heater Do You Need?
Heater output is measured in BTUH. Matching it to the space is the decision that determines whether the appliance short-cycles, runs constantly, or holds temperature properly.
Older buildings, high ceilings, large window areas or exposed sites need more heat per square foot. Bigger is not better: an oversized heater short-cycles, wastes fuel and leaves the space unevenly heated.

With output settled, the remaining decisions are practical.
Where will the vent go?
The unit needs an exterior wall. Interior rooms with no outside wall cannot take a direct-vent heater without extended venting, which changes the install considerably.
Do you need remote control?
The Wi-Fi models let you set temperature from a phone. For a seasonal cottage that means arriving to a warm building and knowing the heat is on through a cold snap while you are away.
Shop this heaterOne appliance or a distributed system?
A space heater warms the room it stands in and whatever is open to it. If heat must reach closed rooms on multiple levels, the OM-128HH hydronic unit feeding radiant or baseboard loops is the better structure.
Shop this heaterDo you also need hot water?
The OM-122DW handles domestic hot water on the same fuel, which avoids adding a large electrical load.
Shop this heaterAre you reusing an existing chimney?
The 4 inch and 5 inch adapter kits fit the OM-122DW and OM-128HH for that case.

Installation and Venting
Space heaters vent through a wall. Direct venting needs one hole through an exterior wall for the concentric vent. No chimney, no liner, no ductwork. All four Laser space heaters install this way and ship with a standard vent kit.
Water heating units vent separately. The OM-122DW and OM-128HH take their vent kit as a separate order. Where an existing flue is being reused, 4 inch and 5 inch chimney install adapter kits are available. Confirm the venting method for your installation before ordering hardware.
Clearances and terminal placement. Vent terminals have required clearances from windows, doors, air intakes and property lines. Confirm these against the manual and local requirements before choosing a wall.
Fuel supply. These are oil-fired appliances and need a tank, supply line and filtration. Confirm accepted fuel grades for your model with your supplier.
Permits and certified installation. Oil-fired appliance installation is regulated across Canada and generally requires a certified oil burner technician plus inspection. Requirements vary by province.
