Power outages in Québec are getting longer and more frequent. Ice storms, heavy snow and summer windstorms can leave homes without heat, water pumps or refrigeration for hours or even days. A home battery keeps your essentials running when the grid goes down.
The good news: Québec now pays part of the cost. Through the Rénoclimat program, homeowners can get up to $5,000 back for installing a home battery with a backup connection.
In this guide, we explain how the Québec battery rebate works, who qualifies, what equipment you need, and why the Elios Inversa1510 hybrid inverter paired with an Elios Litio battery is one of the simplest ways to build a rebate-ready system.
What Is the Québec Battery Rebate?
The Québec battery rebate is a financial aid offered through Rénoclimat, the Government of Québec's home renovation program. It helps homeowners add a fixed battery system that provides backup power during outages.
The rebate has two parts:
|
Rebate |
Amount |
What it covers |
|
Battery system rebate |
Up to $4,000 |
Adding a fixed battery to your home |
|
Backup connection rebate |
Up to $1,000 |
Electrical work connecting backup power to a transfer switch, including the switch |
|
Total |
Up to $5,000 |
Key dates to know:
-
Eligible work: completed on or after October 1, 2026
-
Application window: within 12 months of finishing the installation
-
Program end: March 31, 2029, or earlier if funding runs out
You do not need solar panels to qualify. The rebate is for the battery itself, so you can start with backup power today and add solar later.
You can read the official Rénoclimat announcement for full program details.
Who Qualifies for the Battery Rebate?
Both your home and your installer must meet the program's conditions.
Your home must be:
-
Your primary residence in Québec, or an eligible multi-unit residential building
-
At least 5 years old
-
Connected to the Hydro-Québec electrical grid
Your installer must:
-
Hold the appropriate RBQ (Régie du bâtiment du Québec) licence for the battery installation
-
Use a qualified electrician for the backup connection and transfer switch
-
Complete Rénoclimat's work conformity attestation after installation
No pre-installation energy assessment is required for the battery rebate. Still, read the Rénoclimat Participant's Guide before starting work to confirm what applies to your project.
Don't have an installer? Volts works with a network of RBQ-licensed installation partners across Québec who already know Elios equipment.

Elios Litio batteries built for Québec winters
Elios Litio batteries use LiFePO4 chemistry, known for safety and long life. The Litio5.12 is rated for 6,000 cycles, which is more than 16 years at one cycle per day. The Litio5.12 and Litio16 carry UL9540A certification, the thermal runaway test most Canadian authorities require for residential storage permits.
Always confirm your exact setup qualifies with the Volts team before you buy.
Choosing Your Rebate-Ready Elios System

How Much Will You Pay After the Rebate?
Here is an example using Elios Kit A, the most popular system for the rebate:
|
Item |
Amount |
|
Elios Kit A (Inversa1510 + Litio10.2) |
$9,994 |
|
Rénoclimat battery rebate |
− up to $4,000 |
|
Kit cost after rebate |
about $5,994 |
|
Backup connection rebate (on electrical work) |
− up to $1,000 |
This is an example for illustration only. Installation costs are extra and vary by home. A rebate cannot exceed eligible costs before taxes.
Elios prices have also recently dropped by up to 20.9%. Combined with the rebate, backup power is more affordable than ever.

FAQs
How Much Is The Québec Battery Rebate?
Up to $5,000: up to $4,000 for the battery system and up to $1,000 for the backup connection to a transfer switch.
Do I Need Solar Panels To Get The Battery Rebate?
No. The rebate covers adding a fixed home battery. Solar panels are optional and can be added later.
Is The Elios Inversa1510 Eligible For The Rebate?
Yes. When paired with an Elios Litio battery of 5 kWh or more and installed by an RBQ-licensed contractor, the Inversa1510 meets the program's inverter and grid connection requirements. Confirm your setup with Volts before buying.
Can I Apply If My Battery Is Already Installed?
Only if the work was completed on or after October 1, 2026.
How Long Do I Have To Apply?
12 months after your installation is completed. The program runs until March 31, 2029, subject to available funding.
Does Volts Install The Battery?
Volts supplies the equipment and connects you with certified installation partners across Québec. Your installer handles the installation, backup connection and attestation.
Can I Combine The Battery Rebate With The Solar Grant?
Yes. You can claim the Rénoclimat battery rebate and the Hydro-Québec LogisVert solar grant on the same project.
How Long Can A Home Battery Power My House During An Outage?
It depends on battery capacity and what you run. A 10.24 kWh Elios Litio10.2 can keep essentials like a fridge, furnace fan, lights, internet and sump pump running for many hours. Larger kits with 20.4 or 30.6 kWh of storage extend backup time for longer outages. The Volts team can size a system around your actual loads.
Do Elios Litio Batteries Work In Québec’s Cold Winters?
Yes, with the right model and location. LiFePO4 batteries charge best above freezing, so most are installed in a heated basement or garage. For colder spaces, the Elios Litio16 has a built-in heating function and an IP65-rated enclosure to protect performance in Canadian winters.
Can I Add More Batteries Or Solar Panels To My System Later?
Yes. The Elios Inversa1510 accepts up to 15 kW of solar input, and up to three units can run in parallel. You can add up to 16 Litio10.2 or 32 Litio5.12 batteries. Start with a rebate-eligible system today and expand as your energy needs grow.
Is A Home Battery Better Than A Generator For Backup Power?
A battery runs silently, needs no fuel, produces no emissions and switches on automatically during an outage. Unlike most generators, it also qualifies for the Rénoclimat rebate of up to $5,000. Some homeowners pair both for extended outages. Compare the options in our guide: How to Choose Between a Generator, a Battery System, or Both.
Can Duplex Or Multi-Unit Building Owners Get The Battery Rebate?
Yes. Eligible multi-unit residential buildings in Québec can qualify for the Rénoclimat battery rebate, but conditions apply. Check the official Rénoclimat Participant’s Guide for the exact requirements, or contact Volts to confirm which Elios system suits your building.
